The University of California, Davis, invites applications for the position of Mediation Services Director. The general responsibility of the Mediation Services unit includes the development and implementation of a wide and complex range of conflict management programs including, but not limited to, those set forth in California’s Evidence Code. The Director is the final authority for matters appropriate for mediation, and manages all aspects of the Mediation Program including mediations, marketing, education and liaison to campus committees, departments, unions and various staff offices. We are seeking an incumbent who has demonstrated experience in effectively providing mediation services in a diverse, complex environment along with proven ability to expand and enhance mediation program services through outreach, marketing and personal relationships. In addition, the incumbent must possess a comprehensive understanding of different mediation methodologies and ability to effectively use these models in various situations.
Qualifications:
Strong leadership, conflict resolution, management and supervisory skills and experience with a demonstrated commitment to a customer service management style. Demonstrated experience in effectively providing employment related mediation services in a diverse, complex environment. Sophisticated knowledge of labor and employment law and the ability to apply it to employment mediation processes. Knowledge and understanding of California Evidence Code relative to the mediation process and general application of the code to issues of legal confidentially. Knowledge of, and experience with, theory and practice of various employment mediation models and styles including evaluative, transformative, narrative, facilitative, restorative justice and various culturally sensitive models. Knowledge of and experience with theory and practice of small and large group dynamics specifically relating to complex conflict management in employment settings. Skill to design various employment mediation interventions and to apply various theoretical mediation models and styles to a wide range of complex presenting and underlying issues involving faculty, staff and graduate students. Experience in designing and presenting sophisticated training/developmental programs on communication, conflict management and problem resolution.
